29/03/17 Black-winged Stilt at Cuckmere Haven

Following a call from Andrew at lunchtime, I gobbled down my meal and set off for the Cuckmere valley to twitch the Black-winged Stilt.  It was reported as being 0.5 miles north of Exceat Bridge.

  • I tried the west bank of the river first and from the top of the first hillock I could see over to the east side where the stilt was showing well in a pond some 50 metres from the path.
  • To get closer I went back to Exceat Bridge and crossed to the east side.
Both views were excellent in their own way and complemented each other well.

Thanks, Andrew (and Paul)  - without your wake-up call I would have missed this cracking bird.
