10/01/14. Lepe for Lesser Yellowlegs then Gosport for Ring-billed Gull

Friday 10 January 2014
Lepe Country Park Hampshire then Walpole Park in Gosport

  • For the second time within a month I made the long trip to Lepe to see the Lesser Yellowlegs, this time to add it to my new 2014 list.  True to form it was still there and showing well alongside a Redshank.  Well worth the effort to get here.

  • A few metres or so away from the star attraction were no fewer than 5 Snipes on the banks by the water.  What a smashing bonus!

  • Also present were Teal, Black-headed Gulls and Canada Geese.

  • On the Solent there were Oystercatchers, Herring Gulls, Grey Plovers,  Turnstones, Brent Geese and a couple of Ringed Plovers.

A nice easy twitch allowing me time to head for Gosport, near Portsmouth, to twitch the Ring-billed Gull at Walpole Park.

  • Again this bird was easy to find, alongside the Black-headed Gulls, Canada Geese, Herring Gulls and Swans on the boating Lake.

Time to go home and it's only 14.30.  Sue will be surprised.
