Selby Road, Uckfield
Our local East Grinstead Group were invited to an Easter event at the Selby Road Nature Reserve. I am ashamed to say that, despite living less than a mile away, I had never heard of it. The weather was glorious with bright sunshine, no wind and clear skies. The local community turned out in force and enjoyed a very pleasant afternoon.
- With so many people in a confined space there were few birds with the best sightings in the skies overhead where a Sparrowhawk and a Buzzard provided the highlights.
- In the evening, at Weir Wood reservoir I enjoyed spectacular views of 5 drake Mandarins competing for the attention of one female.
I agreed to visit the Selby Road reserve again, when things are quieter and more normal, to update the residents on the birds on show there - a labour of love on my own doorstep!
