28/03/2016 American Wigeon at Pulborough Brooks

Monday 28 March 2016
RSPB Pulborough Brooks, West Sussex

An early start to twitch the American Wigeon,  that was reported yesterday at RSPB Pulborough Brooks.

  • The bird was showing well, on the bank on the opposite side of the water, about 40 metres from West Mead hide.  It entered the water, after a short nap, and moved parallel to the bank, giving excellent views to the assembled birders.

  • Also present were a small flock of Sand Martins and a single Swallow.

  • The wigeon was a "lifer" for me and my first since the end of November 2015.

  • Paul told me it is almost 20 years since the last one was seen in Sussex.
