 Old Lodge

Ashdown Forest, Sussex

Ashdown Bird Group

9 of us enjoyed a lovely walk around the Old Lodge Reserve this morning.  The weather was very good with mild conditions throughout.  We only saw 26 species but we didn't expect to get any more at this time of the year.

  • Pick of the day was a large mixed flock of Redwing and Fieldfare that we saw several times as we walked round the site.  They showed in the trees at the start then took to the air to provide us with lovely panoramic scenery.  This was my first encounter with winter thrushes this autumn and it was much appreciated.
  • Views of Dartford Warbler were  at a premium with just a fleeting view of one near the end of the tout.
  • It was nice to see Bullfinches, Coal Tits, Stonechats, Great Spotted Woodpecker as well as the basic tits, corvids etc

A lovely event
