Local Twitching

 Sunday 14th November 2021

with Martin J

Newhaven West Pier

The primary reason for today's twitch was to travel down to Newhaven to look for the Radde's/Dusky Warbler.  Weather conditions were super, even if there wasn't much sunshine.

  • The bird was showing to the crowd of birders as we arrived but it was flitting around constantly and never settling which made it so difficult to get a good view in our binoculars.  After a while it flew a few metres to the left, then back again right, before disappearing for 45 minutes or so.  When it reappeared it was just the same - showing for a fraction of a second then going down in the scrub, disappearing from sight for long periods etc.etc.

Arguements are still raging as to whether it's a Dusky Warbler or a Radde's Warbler.

Watch this space folks

Polegate Service Station A22/A27 Interchange

Just after lunch we headed towards Polegate Services to twitch the long-staying Hooded Crow.

  • .A quick drive round the area proved fruitless but just as we headed towards the roundabout to exit the area we saw the bird perched on wires off to our left.  We stayed for a short while - this time the bird was stationary and very obliging

That's better!
