Lincolnshire Tour
Day 2/6
Cumbrian Friends Annual Outing
Freiston Shore then Gibraltar Point
We called in at Freiston Shore on our way to Gibraltar Point for a very pleasant walk round the reserve.
- We managed to see most of the usual suspects but with such fine weather there were no unexpected migrants.
- For me the best sighting was the one involving two Little Terns which were showing in the distance on the sand.
- For Brian, Graham and Harvey the Green Woodpecker caused the most stir. This bird is a real rarity in Cumbria, hence the great excitement.
Whisby
Ben Ward, the assistant warden at Gibraltar Point, advised us to visit Whisby on our way home, advice which turned out to be very beneficial.
- Graham and I managed to hear one of the Nightingales singing from the scrub, but couldn't get a sighting.
- Soon afterwards, Graham picked up the song of the Willow Tit and then we caught sight of two of them in the tall trees close by.
We were pleased with our species count of 76 today and the two birds mentioned above were the icing on the cake.
Another scorching day.
