13/06/2018 Acres Down in Hampshire

Wednesday 13 June 2018
Acres Down, Hampshire

Travelled down to Hampshire with Shaun to look for raptors at Acres Down.  We were rewarded with a good turnout.

  • Shaun was particularly keen to see Goshawks and we must have had over 10 really good sightings over the course of the morning, including one perched at the top of a bare tree quite close to our viewing area.
  • A couple of Honey Buzzard sightings were most welcome.
  • Several Hobbies were seen - always a delight to observe.
  • We also saw Woodlark, Peregrine, Buzzard and Willow Warbler.
Our wish list also included Wood Warbler, but, try as we may, we could not find any.  We were a month too late I fear; the birds would have mated by now and stopped singing,  making them difficult to locate.

A very good early morning visit to one of my favourite sites.
