Birding in North Kent with Mark, Elizabeth and Martin

 Sunday 5th February 2023

We decided to do a 2-site visit to North Kent today, going to Reculver in the morning and then moving to Stodmarsh NNR for the afternoon session.

Reculver

The wind was quite strong, otherwise it was dry and sunny.

  • On the way to the site we saw a couple of Stock Doves on the roof of one of the cottages by the roadside.
  • We headed east from the car park for 1/2 mile or so and soon found the Snow Buntings that have been here since early December.  There were 8 in total and we spent some time enjoying ground views and flight views.

  • On the way back to the car park we saw a stunning Black Redstart on the rocks by the tower

  • Other birds of interest that we saw included several Kestrels, lots of Corn Buntings and Linnets.

Stodmarsh NNR

  • At Stodmarsh there was no sign of the Ring-necked Duck that had been reported earlier.
  • We did see a Treecreeper, several Marsh Harriers and, just before we left, there was a constant flow of Fieldfares over our heads.

Another good trip!
