The weather was great again today with lots of sunshine, hardly any breeze but it was a tad cold. Martin and I drove down to Dell Quay to join up with Elizabeth and Mark for a days birding.
FISHBOURNE CREEK
The situation here was similar to my last visit two weeks ago. The high tide meant there was not much mud and so waders were at a premium.
- The species list was also similar to last time except that this time I saw my first Kingfisher, Greenshank and Pintail of the year.
PAGHAM HARBOUR and CHURCH NORTON
We had lunch at Pagham Harbour before moving round to Church Norton.
- On the sea we soon located 4 Red-throated Divers, a Razorbill but the highlight was the sighting of at least 3 Slavonian Grebes. There was hardly a wave in sight which, added to the superb lighting, meant that the views were excellent.
We stopped off at the bench seats overlooking Pagham Harbour on the way back to the car. By now the tide was receding and the waders came out to play in vast numbers on the mud.
- There must have been around 100 Pintails showing in the far channel.
- 2 Goldeneye were seen but there were no drakes around.
Year total = 105
Another cracking day out with my friends.
